Alkohole sind Kohlenwasserstoffe, bei denen jeweils ein Wasserstoff (H) durch eine OH-Gruppe ersetzt worden ist.

Es gibt eine ganze Reihe von Alkoholen:

Der vom Menschen konsumierte Alkohol ist Äthylalkohol (Ethanol). Äthylalkohol entsteht durch alkoholische Gärung von Zuckerreichem Getreide, Obst oder auch Kartoffeln und ähnlichem mit Hilfe bestimmter Hefepilz.
